HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Im a little late on the holiday wishings, but today is New Years and in the good spirit of the new year, I wish everyone a happy holidays! If you are starting a new years resolution, wether to eat healthier, save more money or to be a little more glamourous everyday, stick to it!! Mine happens to be to blog more, so expect more blog posts in the near future!

On to the main point of the post, one of the most exciting things about the holidays in New York are the Bergdorf Goodman windows. From all of the years from my memory and pictures, my fathers jewelry was showcased in the BG holiday windows. We used to visit the windows the night it opened and take turns posing in front of the windows!

In this mornings NYT, Bill Cunnigham had his usual street spotting page, but was inspired by the Under the Sea BG window. He had the BG window as his main inspiration, which I also pictured below.

 My favorite window was the 'Under the Sea' window on 5th ave. It is decorated with gorgeous fish mosaics, coral reefs, and 20 pieces of Dweck jewelry (I literally stood there for 10 minutes counting over and over again!)

 Most of the SD pieces were from the archives, and some were new, on sale now. My father did a lot of bronze and silver starfish with precious stones in the middle, like aquamarine. Many of the pieces included coral, sea shells, mother-of-pearl and other precious materials from the bottom of the ocean.

 As children we always used to take turns taking pictures of each other posing in front of our father's name, we looked forward to it each year!!

 Another window was inspired by wood, and the window was filled with prop animals and some jewelry. (sorry about the glare, but it was really beautiful!)

The mannequin wore a SD wood bead necklace and bronze tiger eye cuff.

 This was another beautiful window, entirely decorated with copper and birds of all shapes and sizes. The entire floor was covered with pennies and the walls were copper bird wings! But one of the most spectacular pieces was the vintage SD birdcage necklace. Its so fun to try on, but it literally weighs 10 pounds!

Have you seen the windows..which was your favorite? If you answered no and your in the area, go see them!! The windows are easy to find because of the massive crowds in front all taking pictures!

UNDER THE SEA

The spring summer shows ended last week in Paris, concluding the bi-annual fashion month frenzy. As much as it is a drag to scroll through all the shows I possible can, I love it. I love seeing the clothes up close in details, I love the behind the scenes beauty shots and I love the trends that I can prepare my self for, for the coming Spring months. The absolutely BEST trend, is the Under the Sea spectacle, reminding me that The Little Mermaid was and still is my favorite Disney movie. 

I put together my favorite looks of the trend and pulled pieces from the Dweck archive. I will definitely be looking for inspiration for this spring, so charming! All fashion show looks from style.com

REDBOOK, THEN AND NOW

One can only imagine how many Dweck Jewelry press articles there are from over the years. There are binders full of newspaper articles and photos of all the vintage Dweck jewels, leather painted belts and the Dweck collaborations, with Geoffrey Beene, Oscar de la Renta and others. 

I find the old magazines and advertisements from the 80's and 90's so amusing. How different the styling, fashions and even the font is!?

In the June 2011 issue of Redbook Magazine, Shania Twain wears Dweck Jewelry on the cover and throughout the story. I also recently came across two vintage Redbook covers both from 1983 (the first year Dweck jewelry was started), and 28 years later the jewelry graces the cover again!!

THE BLOCK MAGAZINE. SUMMER 2011

Upon seeing this story in the spring-summer issue of The Block Magazine, I immediately fell in love with the title. The spread features model Caroline Winberg (hence the story name Sweet Caroline!!) in neutral, minimalist clothing and bronze vintage jewelry. The simplicity of the clothing, hair and makeup is a brilliant backdrop for the bold Dweck pieces. LOVE!!!

VOGUE MEXICO

Vogue Mexico has been a fan of Dweck Jewelry for years. Each month's pages are filled with gorgeous, decadent jewels, most being vintage and one of a kind pieces. I am actually biased to all the international Vogues, for they are more daring with their spreads and produce a more avant- garde magazine.

Although my paternal grandmother is from Cuba and speaks fluent Spanish with my father, Im ashamed to admit that my Spanish is very inadequate and quite lousy. Despite the entire magazine being in Spanish, anyone can appreciate stunning photos and jewels, without speaking the language!

Below are some of my findings from Vogue Mexico from the past three months. Each cover is more gorgeous than the next. Enjoy!

Crystal Renn covers Vogue Mexico's April cover. I love her. Last year I read her biography Hungry, where she shared her personal struggle of the pressures of becoming a young supermodel, I absolutely recommend it.

The photos below, were inspired by the artist Frida Kahlo. The colors are spectacular.

ONE MANS TRASH IS ANOTHER MANS TREASURE

As the title of this post refers to, antiquing can be like finding a pool of gold or a bin of dusty, smelly chatchkas, its all luck. My parents have always been avid collectors, spending early Sunday mornings in flea markets searching for everything from vases and dinnerware to chandeliers and everything in between.

This past memorial day weekend, we participated in our town's antique fair in Allenhurst, NJ. We had our own table of antiques and items from my parents many years of collecting that we no longer needed. We raised over 700 dollars (!!!!!!!) to go directly to a local charity helping families in need.

MELANIE FIONA

With my love for Florence+ the Machine aside, I would love to introduce to you the amazing Melanie Fiona. She reminds me of a young mix of Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson, but is definitely unique. Her voice is soo strong, her songs are contagious and her style is supercool. A few weeks ago she shot a music video for her new song, Gone and Never Coming Back from her second album, The MF Life. She pulled loads of Dweck pieces, and especially vintage and one of a kind pieces. 


Check out how cool she pulls off these gold painted stone embroidered on leather cuffs and smoky topaz silver link necklace. She pulls of the cool, bohemian look so effortlessly, yet makes it her own. 
(and the song is equally cool and has been on repeat for a while now!)

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE

A few months ago, back in November, I fell in love with the band Florence + the Machine and the lovely lead singer Florence Welch. She's fearless and her voice is real and overpowering. Her voice. Her hair. Her style. Swoon.

For weeks her album, Lungs was playing everywhere. I listened to the entire album on my ipod, in the car and all over the house. I think everyone soon got sick of me playing Cosmic Love on repeat over and over. After some 'researching' on google I fell in love with her style. Its a mix of vintage, bohemian and lots of reds, bronze and fiery orange (to match her fiery hair). She was definitely a perfect match for Dweck Jewelry.

After I repeated Cosmic Love some more, my father contacted Lori at Universal Music, who gave us a few cds, including Florence's, in the first place. Everyone had very busy schedules, so a meeting has yet to be planned, but I was able to snag tickets to a performance. Florence performed an intimate performance at David Letterman in December. It was an awfully cold night but I went straight from the Teen Vogue offices to see her and she was breathtaking!! She performed the entire album for 45 minutes straight! She looked beautiful and her voice live was just as flawless! 


Now that I introduced who she is and why I am soo obsessed, below is a photo of her from Elle's May issue aka Women in Music. In the photo, you can't see the bronze Dweck bracelet but I will post a better and more clear picture asap.

P.S- And after the performance my friend and I RAN outside to see her when she left and we got soooo close to meeting her but there was a VERY big frenzy out there. But I am positive there will be a meeting very soon!!
